Asymmetric Violins

Two corners instead of four; one top and one bottom corner, giving the name to the model.

Not just a pretty face either ! These violins give a very good balance of tone. There’s a choice of colours, ‘f’ holes , and other details which can make them truly unique.

These have been copied by a big Chinese manufacturer who had photographs of mine sent to them. Flattery indeed.

Sam wrote this tune in 1988 while he was working on the Northern Frisk Collection with Jamie Knowles and Pat Chandler-Knowles. Pete Cooper credits him as the composer on the CD, which he recorded as part of his online tune collection. It was written for Dave Godwin who lived in Charlesworth Derbyshire. Dave played Piano Accordion and guitar with the Bilbo Baggins Barn Dance Band with whom Sam played fiddle for many years. The tune is popular with musicians around Saddleworth in Greater Manchester.

    Application of the tune
Good for dancing and goes well with 'John of the Green, the Cheshire Way'

    Tutors Notes
Bridging is a very useful technique to work on in this piece. It is also not a bad idea to work on bow managements trying to keep the bow relatively cantered for all of the string crossing.
